Chronology

1903
Arrived at Recife, young Guilherme de Aquino Fonseca, coming from England, where studied at Hooton Law School. Son of a traditional family from Recife, Guilherme have passioned for football during his season in England. With his economies, he bought the necessary spotrive material to practice football, and ordered some copies of Football Association rules, bringing them to Recife.
1904
After frustrated attempts to cheer Clube Recreio Fluvial (currently Náutico) chairmen to join the new sport, Guilherme get closer to english people, Great Western and Western Telegraph employees. They get used to play football in their residences' backyards, so they liked the idea and gradually, some other youngers which have studied in Europe, also get closer. On this year, a home eleven, leaded by Guilherme, played their first match - training against Western Telegraph eleven.
1905
At  "Casa Metrópole", cloth store located at former Rua Nova, ownered by Guilherme, a group of people interested in found a football club had meeting in the hall of Pernambuco State Trade Employees Association, at mid-day, saturday, May 13th, this group founded Sport Club do Recife, One week later, Sport called their members and football players to the first training. On May 20th, Guilherme de Aquino Fonseca publishd an announce in "Jornal Pequeno" (a newspaper) calling for this training. It was the first notice about football published in Pernambuco State. On June 22th, first match against English companies employees. Final score: 2-2.
1906
On April 29th, Sport reached his first winning match, against Western Telegraph Team, by 1-0. The "red-and-black" stars of the game wew Norsworthy and Fellows. The last one scored the single goal.
1916
Paulino, from América do Rio, signed with Sport, which became the first club from Pernambuco to hire players from other states.
1917
Sport won two state championships in a row.
1925
Three straight state championships for Sport.
1936
Sport acquired his first and definitive home, at Ilha do Retiro.
1941
"The Lion" was the first squad to play in the south part of Brazil, getting a good record. At Belo Horizonte, Sport beat Atlético Mineiro, stopping a 22-year period with no defeats. At Curitiba, Sport lost intentionally to Coritiba for 2-0, to have a higher attendance in the follow match. Playing their real footbal, the squad won easily for 3-0. At Rio de Janeiro, in a heartstopping match against Vasco da Gama, after a moment lose for 3-0, Sport scored 4 goals in a row, winning by 4-3. Three of four goals scored by Ademir Menezes, later transfered to Vasco da Gama, and in 1950, became World Cup top scorer with 9 goals.
1950
Ilha do Retiro had some reforms, to increase attendance to 20.000, destined to host the match Chile-USA for World Cup' 50.
1955
Second large reform at Ilha do Retiro, to celebrate 50th year foundation of Sport Club do Recife.
1975
A state championship after the longest period in history without palmares: 13 years.
1987
Brazilian Champions
1988
Sport take part in Libertadores Cup.
1989
Brasil Cup runner-up (lost in the finals to Grêmio: 0-0 and 2-1)
1990
Brazilian 2nd division champions.
